Arches Aquarelle watercolour blocks are made on a cylinder mould, which offers a quality close to papers made by craftmenship methods. The slow turning of the cylinder enables the fibres to be deposited evenly and spread in all directions over the wire.

The fibres are distributed evenly, the paper slackens uniformly when wet, giving the artist more control. Only papermaking on a cylinder
mould can produce paper with deckle edges. This process can produce papers with a high grammage and exceptional resistance to scratching and erasing.

The Arches blocks are available in 3 textures:
*cold press: paper with a natural, harmonious grain, suited to the majority of techniques or subjects. It reflects the light and gives the pigments a sublimely
transparent effect.
*hot press: this paper undergoes an extra finishing process, passing through
a press to obtain a very smooth surface. The grain is imperceptible and absorbs the colours more quickly. It is suitable for detailed work and drawing very fine lines.
*rough: this is the paper with the most relief. This texture brings out the colours and gives volume.

Arches is superlative quality. The smooth, hot pressed is less absorbent than the cold pressed. This is my preferred paper because I can draw detailed drawings on it without it skipping across a rough surface. Worth every cent.

I adore Arches 300gsm rough, particularly this size on the block. The dimensions are perfect for my work, they can travel well without damaging the paper, I don't have to roll it, and the paper doesn't move like a pad. The internal and external sizing used by Arches is beautiful. I don't paint on the block as I use so much water, so I can't comment on bleeding, but there is only one small area where that could occur, otherwise the black binding on all edges seals well.

Beautiful paper. Excellent and reliable quality. Love working on a block.

Great quality paper. The rough pattern is excellent. Some other brand papers have horizontal lines in the pattern/tooth that spoil the watercolour impression. That’s Not the case with Arches.

My favourite paper, this is in my opinion the best paper for watercolour artists.

Arches watercolour papers are the most excellent available anywhere because they are absorbent (not sealed with gelatin). I would never buy anything else.

I've never been confident enough to use good watercolour paper - what a mistake! it's worth the outlay, I've discovered. This paper helps you achieve better watercolour effects. It's rugged enough to allow some reworking, and takes plenty of water without buckling. No pilling, and the block format (which made me rather nervous!) means there's no need for soaking or taping or any of that faffing about. Saving my cheap paper for colour testing and experimentation, and sticking with the good stuff from now on.

An expensive way to buy this excellent paper. It is measured in cm & not inches as I thought so it was a surprise to receive a small pad.

I find Arches to be the very best of papers, and this 300gsm Rough in block form is suitable to my needs ... also the 400gsm special order pads in Medium are great.
For large work I prefer to work on 640 gsm full sheets, in rough , or Satin finish as depending on my needs. but overall have found Arches papers superior to others.

This is good quality watercolour paper with a great price tag, especially when on special, like I got. I love using the blocks because they are stretched ready to use and so easy to take out if doing plein aire.

Excellent quality watercolour paper. These blocks of pads are great for using plein aire as there is no need for stretching and they are easily transported.
