Have found tape works well on high quality watercolour paper, with no problems with sealing edges or lifting tape off paper. However, when used in a sketchbook, I did have issues with removal of tape, causing some tearing of paper.

I use Saunders Waterford watercolour paper and it does damage the paper a bit after 30 minutes, even if I take it off very gently. One painting took longer than expected and the tape did take the top surface off with a gentle downwards pull. It does seal very well for sure, but I will not use it for my watercolour paintings anymore.

I wouldn’t recommend it for watercolour paper. I used this tape to mask the edges of a watercolour painting and it tore the paper badly. It’s too strong a tape. Maybe it would be better suited for oil painting paper.
