Description
Schmincke Horadam Naturals Watercolor - Stil De Grain, 15ml Tube
Stil de Grain is a yellowish-green brown with semi-translucent characteristics and satisfactory lightfastness. This shade is obtained by lacquering buckthorn berries following a recipe by Paul Schutzenberger from 1873. You can view different formulations of the color Stil de Grain in color recipes dating back to the 16th century.
The natural pigments are sometimes slightly coarser in texture, which - unlike gouache - results in a rougher, usually slightly granular surface effect. The colors aren't stiff but don't flow as easily as traditional watercolor.
