Unfortunately, this product did not work for me. It dried very matt, milky and patchy. I ended up trying to turps off with Gamsol, which was hard to get it off evenly. I had googled Gamblin instructions re this. I had used the varnish on 2 large Oil paintings that had been dry for several months, and two smaller paintings that had been dry for several weeks. I read afterwards on their website that they recommended oiling out before applying. But I didn't know this before applying- no instructions for this on the bottle. Disappointed with this product and had purchased several bottles which I will not use now.
