Description

Use to increase binder content of Matisse Colours when reducing them with water.

MM9 Acrylic Painting Medium is a pure acrylic binder used in formulating Matisse Colours and acts as the principal paint "dilutant" when not using water.

Water may be used with the Matisse colours. However, the addition of more than 30-50% water to Matisse Colours will reduce not only their colour strength (which, of course, is generally the required result) but will also reduce the "binding" capacity of the Matisse colours.

This may lead to the Matisse colours becoming water-sensitive. MM9 Acrylic Painting Medium is used in addition with equal parts water to ensure the Matisse Colours remain waterfast when they are reduced for glazing or any other purpose where water is added to the paint.

MM9 Acrylic Painting Medium with its low sheen and good adhesion makes it a suitable transparent primer or surface conditioner for canvas, paper or board.

I have been using Matisse acrylic mediums for a number of years and unless something dramatic happens I will continue to do so. Cost is a major factor (the suggested dilution of 1 part medium to 1 part water means that I get a 2 Lt. of actual painting medium from each litre I buy). I use an airbrush for much of my work and using the medium instead of water ensures that I have a waterproof finish. A mixture of painting medium and spreader medium allows very fine graduations and I sometime use pastels with acrylics and in this case the painting medium is used as one would use a fixative. Over all I will not change as as Matisse mediums do the job and do it well.
