I have used several brands of 300gsm rough surface including French and English handmade. Baohong has this noticeable ability to emphasise granulation in quite a unique manner and different to the aforementioned brands. This traditional handcrafted paper stays remarkable rigid during painting even with large washes being applied. The, almost silk like feel of the surface allows pigments to flow across the surface effortlessly. Of note is the variation of surface from face to rear of the paper. There is a distinct textural change when turned over. I cannot comment on painting on the reverse side of this paper however, the face surface is exceptional. Awesome surface that returns awesome pigment expression.
