Five Steps to Watercolour Dvd by Amanda Hyatt

Amanda Hyatt is an extremely very competent watercolourist, who (in the DVD) paints full sheets very loosely in subdued tones. As she states, she has an aversion to primary colours, and most of her hues are mixed in the palette, burnt umber being used extensively to achieve the effect she seeks. Her five steps refer to composition, colour, tone, mood and bringing the picture together. Although some of these are not explained in depth (and probably could not be in the space of a single DVD), she illustrates them using pictures painted around Lake Como in Italy.
The final results are very impressionistic, but effective. Her commentary and descriptions are good, and should give the student enough information to emulate her style. Having said that, if you like bright colours or detail, this DVD is probably not for you.
