"Organic – Alizarin Crimson is the oldest synthetic, organic lake introduced in 1868, and the only lake of the coal-tar lake range to have survived in use until the present. Before the end of the 19th-century, other Lakes were found too impermanent, and some Amerian authorities frown on Alizarin because its lightfastness (II-III on the ASTM scale) doesn’t match that of more recent organic red pigments.
But its clarity and subtly beautiful bluish undertones are unique; since its introduction, portraitists have prized its range of cool, rather smoky hues, which are well suited for Caucasian tones.
If you have concerns about using Alizarin Crimson, try mixing transparent oxide red with magenta for “look-alike” oil paint, or use Alizarin Claret."

Free Australia-Wide Shipping
We offer free Australia-wide shipping on orders over $69.95.
Free shipping excludes bulky items and dangerous goods, which may incur additional shipping charges.
Bulky Items
Some large or oversized products require specialist or freight shipping and are excluded from our standard free-shipping offer. Examples include large easels, canvases and other oversized items.
If additional shipping charges apply, we will contact you after your order has been placed.
Dangerous Goods
Certain art materials are classified as dangerous goods and have restrictions on how they can be transported. Flammable products, such as turpentine and many solvents, cannot be transported by air and may therefore require road freight.
This can result in additional shipping charges or longer delivery times, particularly for orders being sent to remote areas or interstate locations.
If your order contains dangerous goods or bulky items, we will contact you if any additional shipping costs or delivery arrangements are required.
